Gatewalk Tree-Growing Initiatives Marches on with Strong CDPEI Backing

July 1, 2018

Cebu District Property Enterprise, Inc. (CDPEI) became the Gatewalk Tree-Growing Initiatives' eco champion. In collaboration with RAFI One to Tree, CDPEI was able to capacitate farmers and individuals involved in the project. The initiatives can be classified into two namely: Gatewalk Mall Tree Growing Initiative and Gatewalk Central Estate Tree Growing Initiative, both located at North Reclamation Area.

Aside from specimen tree production for landscaping purposes, the project also planted native trees in selected project sites. These include areas in Sogod, Mandaue, Borbon, and Tabuelan. Specimen tree production totalled 559 seedlings planted, while native tree growing production summed up to 79,624. The project also initiated a bamboo seedling production for landscaping purposes. The production of the latter totalled to 1,196 seedlings planted.

CDPEI has backed the project, donating up to a total of  ₱6,751,866.28for the Gatewalk Mall Tree Growing Initiative and Gatewalk Central Estate Tree Growing Initiative respectively. Both the initiatives are set to conclude in June 2021. But just from the scale of the seedlings grown and areas covered, they have already sent positive ripples through the communities of Sogod,  Borbon, and Tabuelan.

As of June 2020, the project has helped 15 farmers and at least 64 indirect beneficiaries including the household members of the farmers and other locals.

One to Tree, a program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., offers community-based and environmentally appropriate tree growing services.
