Therma Visayas, Inc. ventured on their largest-scale tree growing projects and Carbon Sink Management Programs to date in partnership with RAFI’s One to Tree Program. The series of projects will run from 2017 to 2027; a ten-year long commitment to achieve the goal of planting over a million trees to reduce carbon emissions.
The astonishing scale of the project covered the major parts of Cebu, spanning over 468.3 hectares of land. From the southern soils to the northern regions, down to the western reaches of the province. The following places were chosen as the designated sites for the project considering their lush soil and climate:
Other areas are still subject to site validation. The scope and scale of the project did come with a hefty donation amounting to ₱52,347,820.00. Nonetheless, the project was able to reach its goal less than halfway from the project end date with 1,185,000 total seedlings planted!
The current success of the project would not be possible without the help of our 142 partner farmers who were responsible for the above 90% survival rate of the seedlings. The project did not only enrich environmental preservation, but ensured the livelihoods of these individual advocates as well.
One to Tree, a program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., offers community-based and environmentally appropriate tree growing services.
